Travel should be fun. It should give us stories to tell, moments to remember, new people to meet – and occasionally something to laugh (or cry) about years later. It can move you. It can also build confidence in ways we don’t always expect.
The first time you navigate an airport by yourself. The first time you order food in a place where you don’t speak the language. The first time you get a little lost and realize you can figure it out. The first time you look around and think, “I actually did this.”
Those moments stay with you.
I created Window Seat Therapist™ because I believe sometimes we need a little encouragement to stop saying “someday.”
Someday I’ll take the trip. Someday I’ll go somewhere, even if it’s by myself. Someday I’ll finally visit that place I’ve been thinking about for years. Someday I will get the motivation to try solo-travel.
But someday has a funny way of staying someday. It can become a spectator sport.
Maybe now is the time to start thinking about the possibilities.
Travel doesn’t always have to begin with a passport or a plane ticket. Sometimes it begins with a road trip, a new town, a different restaurant, or a walk down a street you’ve never explored. A ticket to a Saturday matinee. If all of it gets to be too much, even just a ride to get an ice cream cone!
One small adventure can remind you how capable and curious you still are.
That’s what you’ll find here: real travel stories, practical tips and resources that take some of the mystery out of the journey, and destinations and ideas that might make you start looking at a map a little differently.
And even a few quiet ways to travel without leaving your favorite chair.
My cozy travel coloring books were created for adults who need a little escape, a little creativity, a little inspiration and maybe a little time to themselves.
My Adventure Series™ coloring books were created for children to help make new experiences feel more familiar. Airports, hotels, trains, camping trips, cruises, and other adventures can feel a lot less intimidating when a child has already had a chance to explore what might happen next. It can also make them reflect on a great vacation and cherish their own memories they made on a past trip.
Different ages. Different adventures.
But sometimes confidence begins the same way: by making the unfamiliar feel a little more familiar.
Window Seat Therapist™ is about encouraging curiosity, building confidence, and reminding ourselves that there is still so much to see, taste, experience, and laugh about.
You don’t have to travel around the world tomorrow. You just have to stop assuming you’ll always do it someday. Maybe it’s the road trip to Niagara Falls you’ve been yearning to take – and not a flight across the pond.
Travel confidence doesn’t have to begin at 30,000 feet. Sometimes it begins in your own driveway.
So either way, welcome aboard.
Come along for the stories, the tips, the adventures, and whatever we discover along the way.
And every once in a while, I may remind you to buy the ice cream cone – the simplest journey you can take in the meantime.
If you stay with me on this journey, you’ll understand why.
And just like the name of this website, I always feel the best advice comes from the window seat.
